Jr. Naturalist After-School Program (Grades 1-5) Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., month-long sessions. Inquiry-based, hands-on learning in a safe outdoor environment. The DRA Great Salt Bay Farm is on a bus route from local elementary schools and close to Route 1.  Fee: $55/$50 members at “Mussel” level or above (scholarships available). NEW: Register online ONLY at CampDocs.com. May - Great Migrations. Visit Great Salt Bay to search for elvers, make a bird blind to watch warblers and observe horseshoe crabs spawning in the salt marsh.

May Mini Camp: Wetlands Exploration May 26, 8:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m. For children ages 5-11. Learn all about wetlands! Go marsh-mucking for aquatic invertebrates, build a toad house to take home, and play games. Participants bring snack and lunch and waterproof boots. Pre-registration is due one week before the session starts, although earlier registration is recommended as these sessions tend to fill up quickly. Fee: $45/$40 members at “Mussel/Family” level or above. Invasive Plant Work Day at Dodge Point

Volunteers will work in groups to remove invasive plants such as Japanese barberry, shrubby honeysuckle, Asiatic bittersweet, and multiflora rose. The work day will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with an optional extension from 12:00 to 2:00 PM for anyone who wants to bring a lunch and keep working after a lunch break. Please bring your own water and come dressed to work in the woods, including clothing and/or sprays to protect you from ticks. Come learn about grassland birds and take a walk through a beautiful bobolink habitat that is now being managed for nesting grassland birds! Loss of grassland habitat is a major factor in the steep population decline of grassland birds throughout the northeast such as bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks, and savannah sparrows. Additionally, today’s standard field mowing practices often result in total nest failure of these birds. Consequently, the State of the Birds Report, released by the US Secretary of the Interior, placed bobolinks on the 2014 watchlist of birds most in need of conservation help.
