Jr. Naturalists After-School Program (Grades 1-5)
After-school Inquiry-based, hands-on learning in a safe outdoor environment. Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:15 – 5:00 p.m (month-long sessions) for school-aged children in grade 1 – 5. Fee: $55 non-members /$50 members at “Mussel” level (scholarships available). Program held at DRA Great Salt Bay Farm, 110 Belvedere Road. It is on a bus route from Nobleboro and Great Salt Bay elementary schools.
Scholarships are available for all programs.
January – Wildlife in Winter: Study animal tracks and signs, play games, nature journaling.
February – Winter Wonderland: Dogsledding, snow-shelter building, nature discovery.
March – Terrific Trees! Tap maple trees and try sap, explore the forests, art projects.
April – Wonders of Wetlands: Go marsh-mucking for invertebrates, go on an amphibian walk and more!
May – Great migrations: Visit Great Salt Bay to search for elvers, make a bird blind to watch warblers and observe horseshoe crabs spawning in the salt marsh.
