You are invited to a DRA-PWA Unification Conversation with Executive Director Steven Hufnagel and Board President Joel Russ on June 19 at Darrows Barn at Round Top Farm. Steven and Joel will make a brief presentation, once at about 4:15 and again at 5:15, with lots of informal Q&A and opportunity for members to share their feedback. Trail Tamers monthly work parties tackle specific stewardship projects like building a bridge or clearing a section of trail. They’re scheduled for the third Thursday of each month, May through October, with some family-friendly Saturday events to be determined. As the inevitable additional projects arise we’ll also schedule special work events. Signing up will put you on the e-mail notice list for notifications. Volunteers may join us for one workday or many. Kids under 18 with adult supervision are welcome at all Trail Tamers events. Join us for a walk through beautiful bobolink habitat, learn about bobolinks and other grassland birds as well as how best to manage habitat to protect these threatened species. Loss of grassland habitat is a major factor in the steep population decline of grassland birds throughout the northeast, including bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks, and savannah sparrows. Additionally, today’s standard field mowing practices often result in total nest failure of these birds. Consequently, the State of the Birds Report, released by the US Secretary of the Interior, placed bobolinks on the 2014 watchlist of birds most in need of conservation help. Laura…

Judy Dow, a Winooski Abenaki from Vermont, joins us at DRA a few times a year to teach special programs. Judy is a renowned basket weaver and a life-long, award winning educator who specializes in sharing indigenous knowledge with children. You are invited to a free community concert to hear extraordinary original music composed entirely by children and performed by professional musicians. The composers are campers participating in DRA's two-week River Beats session of Camp Mummichog. During this session, nature exploration provides inspiration for campers to compose original music with Will Healy, an educator affiliated with the New York Philharmonic Young Composers Program.
