Managing organizations:   Damariscotta River Association / Pemaquid Watershed Association

Trail Abstract:

This is an unusual property in that it is privately owned by the Quail Run Homeowners’ Association, but the Damariscotta River Association holds a conservation easement which, unlike most easements, allows for public access. In 2004, Norman and Gale Hochgraf, the former owners, donated a public access easement to the DRA. The property contains approximately 45 wooded acres and is adjacent to the Bearce-Allen Preserve. It contains wetlands and streams. The property remains in a substantially undisturbed wooded natural state, presumably second growth based on the numerous stone walls that crisscross the property. A loop trail of less than ½ mile in length circles through the woods.

Directions to Trailhead:

From Damariscotta take Bristol Road (Route 130) south 7.1 miles to Sproul Hill Road. Turn left on Sproul Hill Road and travel 0.2 miles and turn right on Austin Road. Preserve and trail head are on the left down the road from Bearce-Allen Preserve. Parking is on the right.
